i love these women.  They’re Role Mothers.  While some seek sex- symbol status after their fourth child, these moms are concerning themselves with needs around them and including their kids on the adventure!

This is us on Sunday, stuffing Gifts for Gals at Market Mall for Neighbourlink – another really cool organization in Calgary .  Shops like Marble Slap (Hello!), Crabtree and Evelyn, and Shoppers Drug Mart all donated pampering items to fill the bags that go to a mom in need.  The best thing?  She doesn’t know she’s getting it!  Imagine, a desperate mom calling in because she can’t afford diapers or formula for her baby and she not only gets her baby’s needs met, but a beautiful gift as well just to say, “You are special”.  That gets me jazzed.   I had the honour of delivering two of these hampers for neighbourlink yesterday.

Who thinks of this?  Moms.  Moms have more influence and answers to society’s problems than they think they do.  While moms often hang their heads in shame for all the things they don’t do – what they CAN do is beyond remarkable.  Thinking of things such as stuffing gifts for moms, baking meals for neighbours in need or a family with a new baby, babysitting for a friend in a tight spot, inviting the outcast over for dinner – these are the real-life, nitty-gritties that have substance and meaning to those on the receiving end.

“Go big or go home” thinking has sent moms into despair.  Many have indeed “gone home” because “going big” just isn’t an option with 3 young kids under 5….   But small things done with great love impact in big ways.  It’s time we start living like we believe it.  It’s time to put the Desperate Housewives DVD series away and start living like the healers, restorers and life-givers we are.   It’s time to focus on being a Role Mother, not a rock star.

You can find out all about Role Mothers at: http://www.facebook.com/RoleMothers and Neighbourlink at http://neighbourlinkcalgary.ca.  Anyone can deliver a hamper for neighbourlink and can decide how many, how often. It’s very flexible!  You can also put the hampers together at their warehouse.  It’s a wonderful place to volunteer!  They also take donations of baby items and furniture.
