Jennifer Grant writes:
In his book Beyond Words, Frederick Buechner wrote “Whenever you find tears in your eyes, especially unexpected tears, it is well to pay the closest attention. They are not only telling you something about the secret of who you are, but more often than not God is speaking to you through them of the mystery of where you have come from and is summoning you to where…you should go next.”
Take heart that this new part of life is about more than you.
“Pay attention to what brings tears in your eyes”…. I love that. It reveals so much about something greater inside of us;
injustice that angers you
empathy in your heart towards others going through the same thing
Yes, pay attention to what grips your heart, pain you’ve experienced, grief you have carried…. because it opens your eyes to those the same. Our culture-rebel from yesterday’s blog, Karin, would have never started her Chapacisers group if not being left to feel like a loser, alone in the dark. It fueled a flame that has been a wave of impact in her community.
Your pain and burdens are a gift to you to be able to truly see. Without them, we would remain blind to needs around us.
Inside of you is the capacity for transformation. Your tears direct you where that transformation is to be directed.
What brings tears to your eyes? What moves your heart? Feel free to comment your answer!
