For years I have dreamed of travelling with my family. I would listen in amazement to family’s who have made radical decisions to sell everything to travel the world. Though our family doesn’t desire to sell everything to travel, we have radically adjusted our lifestyle so we can travel frequently and world school our children. If you have a heart to travel and you haven’t read my blog, “How you can travel with your family on a mediocre salary”, read it to find out how anyone can do this. I wanted to start sharing our travel experiences so you can begin to see the possibilities out there for your family as well.
What is World Schooling?
What is world schooling? It’s a combining education and travel. It’s allowing the world to be the textbook as opposed to just sitting in a desk. Instead of hearing about the world, you experience it. It also has no time restrictions. Even though we have been off for summer holidays, our kids having been curious and learning all summer! We have found that when we take a step back from structured learning, we are amazed at how curious kids naturally are.
Every summer my hubby takes our boys on separate road trips, where they drive for hours and eat junk food. At least, that’s my interpretation of it. Jokes aside, it’s a wonderful time of father/son connection while exploring places our car can take them.
This summer my hubby and 8 year old son stopped in at Tombstone Guest Ranch in Tombstone, Arizona and loved it! My 8 year old loves history, so you can imagine his delight when he showed up to what felt like the Ol’ Wild West. You can hear his thoughts on the experience on our YouTube video here.
With that, here are two big reasons why we think you and your family need to visit Tombstone Guest Ranch.
The setting is like no other.
Let’s start with the rooms. Amazing! The rooms are storefronts in a Western town. You never know what room you will stay in, the post office, the jail. It’s epic for a wide eyed 8 year old boy like ours. You feel like you’ve travelled through time to a different era. You literally feel like you’re living in an old Western town. This alone was worth the entire experience for our family. The rooms were gorgeous with fantastic decor and amazing facilities.
It was a real western experience
Our son loved the Cowboy breakfast hosted by Arizona Bill. In the evening there were cowboy games you could participate in. Other activities they had on site was horseback riding, archery, and a shooting range. The swimming pool was a hit with our son as well. Our son loved learning about how they used to keep food cold underground in the 1800’s by looking through the glass display of this “underground refrigerator” at the ranch.
Check out their website here to learn more and plan your visit! We highly recommend it.
